Stephen Hillenburg, the man behind Nickelodeon’s megahit cartoon series “SpongeBob SquarePants,” !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! after battling ALS . He was 57.
I never much cared for the show, but that’s still a gut punch. 57 is way too young.

ALS is the worst. That’ s not far off when my dad passed from it. Its like someone slowly switching off parts of your body one piece at a time while your fully functioning brain gets to watch it unfold.

ALS took my mother-in-law too. As you say, watching somebody with a fully-functioning brain who is unable to speak or move is gut-wrenching. I started watching SpongeBob when my kids started. It’s a damned funny show, very intelligent.

May he rest in peace.
In the meantime, I'm singing the theme song in my mind for at least the next hour.
